Precautions When Walking Alone
Elderly people who are out at night for a relaxing walk are often the prey of thieves. If you are one of these people, then you better take precautions to keep yourself from harm. First, always be alert and scan your surroundings as you walk. Next, do not stroll down deserted, dimly lighted streets or dark alleys. Always keep to populated walkways and large streets.
Do not show that you are afraid or uncertain. Instead, project an attitude of confidence and calm. According to research, showing an air of uncertainty and fear makes a person look vulnerable, increasing the risk of being assaulted or robbed. In addition, act on your instincts. That means if someone gives you a bad feeling, firmly tell him to leave you alone then walk away. Wear unassuming, comfortable clothes and do not flash off any jewellery because fancy attire and gleaming accessories attract robbers. Finally, do not fumble for money in your purse or pocket out in public. Instead, find a secure place where you can safely extract your cash.
