It’s no secret that once a person reach old age, every single detail must be closely monitored (e.g., blood pressure, heart rate, and calorie intake) and even his or her diet must be strictly supervised. As people get older, their immune resistance slowly deteriorates, making them very vulnerable to diseases and other health complications. So to prevent these health risks from happening, they must eat the right kind of food.
Here are some of the items that should be included in their diets:
1. Those that are rich in fibre. People who are in their prime years are somewhat finding it a bit hard to discharge their wastes daily. This is because their metabolism slows down. With the help of fruits and vegetables that are rich in fibre, regular bowel movement can be achieved. Through this, bodily toxics are discharged. So, make sure to include fruits like bananas, apple, pineapple, figs and berries in their meals daily. You can also incorporate one serving of oatmeal in their diet per day.
2. Those that are abundant in calcium. Adults who are entering this age suffer from bone-related diseases because of lack of calcium. To avoid health problems like osteoporosis, make sure that they get the right amount of calcium in a day. Aside from the good it does to the bones, this mineral is also a good kind of antioxidants that fights radicals that cause health problems like cancer. Rich source of this mineral are dairy products such as milk, cheese and yoghurt.
3. Those that have large contents of Vitamin D. These serve as an agent for the body to absorb calcium. They can mainly get this from sunlight but there are also food items that are an abundant source of this vitamin like eggs, fish and fortified products.
4. Those that are rich in Iron. With the right amount of this vitamin, they will be more active and alert. Rich source of this supplement is red meat, chicken and pork liver, and fish as well.
5. Those that are the main source of Protein. These include meat, fish and eggs. This component is responsible for building up and repairing tissues and as well as strengthening immune resistance. This also helps in producing hormones, enzymes and other substances that the body use.
But remember that in order for your beloved to be healthier, diet is not the only thing that is required. It needs to be paired with regular exercise that is suitable for his or her body capacity. It is also recommended that he or she goes through constant check-up and health monitoring to lessen, if not totally eliminate, health risks.
