What You Need to Know About Buying Clothes for Seniors
As people’s age increases, their needs become more complicated as their physical abilities become more limited. There are significant issues that one must face when one wants to purchase apparel for them. One of these is relation to safety and health. Hands and legs are not as strong as they used to be, and any bending or twisting becomes really painful. Hence, it is not enough to simply obtain comfortable or beautiful pieces, but also those that are not hard to don on or remove.
In this regard, here are some of the things that you need to consider when buying clothing for seniors who need personal assistance.
Night Clothes
You must obtain only those that can be easily slipped right over the head. You must also get those which are lightweight and easy to wash, preferably those that are made of fleece or cotton.
Footwear
Make sure that you avoid anything with rubber soles since these might throw them out of balance. It is recommended that you stick to those with leather soles instead because they are sturdy. When it comes to the enclosures, those made of Velcro work well, but you must stay away from laces unless you are around to tie them. To keep them from the cold, wrap their ankles with thick socks.
Tops
It is recommended that you follow the same rules for night clothes. When it comes to undershirts, get the ones made of silk so they will be kept warm.
Pants
The same rule regarding buttons, zips, and front pockets apply here as well. Find those that are secured by garters so that they fit well and do not fall down. Again, fleece is a great material that you must choose.
Most elderly people who can never do most things on their own anymore usually have care staff to assist them when dressing up. So, as much as possible, buy the former clothes that have fastening on the back to make the whole process quicker and faster and most of all, dignified.
